Some internet ideas
Jun 27 2008, 1:04 PM EDT 1) Yelp Entry -- I think you should at least have a place where people can provide an opinion -- and have basic information. For the sake of authenticity, I think that it's important that your team only places the "basic information" online, and let the yelpers do all the hard work of reviewing your restaurant. Any restaurant that tries to hijack Yelp is viewed upon negatively, so for that reason, we should tread carefully here. 2) Google / Yahoo Maps / Map "Business Search" engines: It is always good to be searchable on Google Maps. There is a place where you can "add your business" to the map, and doing so is imperative once you open your restaurant so that people searching the map will find you. Goog-411 is also becoming a popular way to find businesses (at least among some of us), so it may be good to find out how to get in that directory as well. 3) Facebook Fan page. This is kind of an "extra" one, but anything that shows up in facebook feeds when people join is good. 4) Facebook event for opening. Not sure if you had any plans for grand opening, but this would be a great place to publicize. Have a special offer of some sort associated with the opening...etc. Invite all your friends, have your friends invite friends, make it an all weekend event... whatever. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Some internet ideas
Jun 27 2008, 1:04 PM EDT These are ideas with specific regard to marketing to the facebook generation... with Facebook, it's really key to make sure that whatever you want to "advertise" fits onto a line or two and is extremely descriptive. For example, "Amanda's Fan Club" might not really attract my attention, whereas "Amanda's Fresh Fast Food - Berkeley Store Grand Opening - Invite your friends!" might work really well in a 2 line spot in someone's feed. I think marketing to the facebook generation is a lot about having 1-2 line "sound bites" and knowing the right people. From a numbers perspective, it's really key to know people who have lots of friends who are still in the Berkeley area. Past and present interns will be invaluable in advertising...hopefully enough students are around during the late summer timeframe to be interested in it. I think it would be really great to also have interns/Berkeley friends/facebookers be armed with digital cameras prior to/around opening date. Some ideas of photos that would catch my attention on my friend's feeds: - close up hamburger shots - shots of cool ecological furniture - logo shots, front of store, decor - people eating basically, my idea behind this would be to plaster the facebook universe with hype about the restaurant, without making it appear like it's a sponsored initiative.... Anyway, just fun ideas for facebook marketing. Facebook only appeals to a limited demographic though. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Some internet ideas
Jul 31 2008, 5:10 PM EDT Yelp: Now that our entry is up and running, we need to be active in maintaining it. Do we actually accept credit cards? What are our hours? The reviews are still positive, but if the reviews go south, do we have a way of addressing them? Will we address them or let them be? I have been monitoring the entry and reviewing the comments. Hopefully more people give us reviews so that we can read and respond to the concerns. Do you find this valuable? |
